NEXT BLOCK SHOOT IS FEBRUARY 5, 2012
Football? Super Bowl? - Who needs it?! Seriously, I am going to watch the game. But what about before the game? There is plenty of time to come to the club and have some fun at the Block Shoot. Who knows? Maybe you will win some ring baloney and cheese for snacking during the game.
You will be seeing a lot of activity at the clubhouse the next few weeks. Bob Brior, our late Treasurer and member for over 30 years, bequeathed funds for the clubhouse to be renovated. The building has been in need of better insulation, new walls, lighting and ceiling tiles for years but there hasn't been enough money to do the needed repairs to the ranges, ponds, and clubhouse. Now, at least, we can take care of some of the more critical needs in the clubhouse. We hope the new interior will make the clubhouse more desirable as a rental for our members. If you are planning an event this year and are looking for a place, consider the Club.
Also, we are continuing upgrading the backstops at the rifle range. This may necessitate closing the range from time to time but we will try to keep it as short as possible.
The Fish and Ponds Committee is again working on expanding our offerings for the fishermen and women of the club. Last year they stocked Largemouth Bass in Brior's Pond and many members commented favorably on the fun of catching them. We've added minnows to the pond to give the bass some extra forage and to help control the algae. Now, if Mother Nature co-operates, this should be a very good year for fishing at the Club. Check out the Events page for the new "Ladies Only" Fishing Contest and the First Day of Bass Event. They are also planning a Fishermen's Night at the club. More on that in the next Eminder.
NOTICE: All members should be aware - the property behind Brior's Pond has been posted No Trespassing. Please be respectful of our neighbors' land. Do not go beyond the wood's edge surrounding the pond. This is NOT Club property! The area outlined in red below is the extent of the club's property around the pond.
You can see the wooded area in the upper right is not club property.
